her name was mamaw
i was driving
the lincoln...big red boat of a car
she offered a chance i couldnt pass up
i accepted of course
14 years old i think
she well into her 80s
hell yes 2 an opertunity alone w/
my mamaw
we were crusin'
about 17 mph
en route
ruston country club
we used to go the club a lot
back when i used to visit
my mamaw
"sloeeee downnnnnnn"
she says, we're southernirs' mind ya
i look to my left nothing
i fucked up, crashed drivers mistake
i look to my right and see
a stretcher obviously pregnant black woman
"prollly a shootin'" she says
my mamaw
she used to peal my oranges
take me on walks around "the park"
tell me to comb my hair n look my best
sidetrack 2 da story yes i know
but important memories of
my mamaw
so i come to an abrupt stop
and take a moment to take in the scene
she mutters an explitive
somthing i cannot repeat
given my mothers mothers mothers cousin
was a black man
still we'll say NICER 4 the word she used
my mamaw
"NICER, probally a gun shot wound"
she spoke - i shock, dismay, confusion
"NICERs, always shootin' each other"
her words stung to my core
her generation, i maskingly convince
she was my world, top of the tops
my mamaw
"you know what mamaw?"
i ask trepidly
silence
"using the NICE word is kind bad now days"
i continue
"why?" she inquires
"it's what they've always been called"
i sigh
"well now people frown upon it,
times....it...has changed"
i rush to support my statement for
my mamaw
a long silence akward to say the least
she replies "well what should i call 'em"
she asks
my mamaw
I reply, almost instantly
"black, i think black is best now"
i say content to my responce
a very long pause
the longest yet
she is thinking i think
my mamaw
still more silence
then she responds
"ummm brown"
"i think i'll call 'em brown"
"they r much more brown than black"
she says
my mamaw
classic i think
biting my toung
to keep from laughing
she showed me so much
taught me the way

a year ago today
at four something in the morning
a year ago today
the most beloved person in my life
thus far i keep telling myself hoping
left this earth in search of a bigger truth
my mamaw - still tear up typing or saying her name
she was earth's greatest
4 me
ok tears
time to change the subject
of course
disassociation
i've learned in school
but fuck it works for me
didnt see american idol last night
but saw the clips
ryan seacrest said something like 65m votes
more than any president in our history
right, 4 prez u can't vote twice yes
but seriously was that a nessisary refrence
sad, sad, sad, no?
speaking of the prez
bush
our lost leader
what's going on in dc
i wonder often
what he does before he goes to bed
we all do it
go to sleep each night
some have a routine
some it's random
some blackout
some passout
some drug out
but what does georgie do?
think he prays?
to who?
for what?

feldman
ok so the story goes...
first semester
freshman year
a friend from the dorm
practically a suitemate
had a death in the family
grandfather
and left town suddenly
asked if i could hook up his friend
who was coming in town to stay
on his way somewhere
one night it was sworn
i agreed
the guy calls me the night in question
says hes just leaving houston
will call me when he's close
i think he called 200 times
over the three hour drive
what the fuck was i thinking
i thought to myself
he gets in town
calls again
we're on the phone
i'm directing him thru austin
and to campus
thru campus
and to my dorm
holy shit he says
can cops arrest you on ur campus
i said excuse me
he said a cop in a truck
is behind me
oh campus police i said
they probally think your fucked up
and are going to escort you here
tell them ur a student
live in teresa dorms
i gave him my room #
and that u lost your id
play it cool, i'll come find you
campus was small
i co-dependent
i watched from a hall window
as feldman made a mad dash
go knows where he was heading
far away apprently
then i saw it
the cop pulling a bong from the car
fuck period send
then
another st eds police truck pulled up
i'd never seen then radio for backup
i never knew there was backup
there were like 400 students living on campus
it was small as shit yo
i decided to go back to my room
feldman who? i thought to myself
15 minutes later, a st eds rent a cop
is at my door, holy fuck i think
i answer the door
a cell phone was found
from a supsect who fled the scene
he called the dorm parking lot a scene
i wanted to laugh
i bit my tounge
be cool i thought
turns out feldman had over an once of weed in his car
turns out feldman had over 200 pills of esctacy in his car
turns out feldman's car was registered to him and he had warrents
the shit just got deeper and deeper
i was vague as hell
a friend who left on emergency for a funeral
asked me to let his friend crash the night
i agreed to help him out with my floor
i played it coy
they left me alone after an hour that night
until the next day, i get a letter in my student box
saying i am to report to the sheriff of campus police
campus police has a sheriff, fuck i though
there's a sheriff in town, u know i'm in trouble
i went -- terrified
as well i should be
the guy did a whole song and dance
trying to intimidate me into criminilizing myself
with nothing to criminalize
you could tell this was the biggest shit
the university police had ever seen
they were loving it
eventually he let me go
with nothing more to ask
i dodged all his attempts with great ease
thank you rodney, the lawyer gave me something
feldman ended up getting turned over to austin police
and getting arrested and arained
he ended up having to move to austin
to handle the case, his parole, and court orders
he became like a zitt on my still lightly overweight ass
feldman was hart to get rid of
bastard

mr barr*
UPDATED 9/06
NOT IMPORTANT
BUT WNATED 2
SHOW THE TWEEKED
MR BAR...
we met today in beverly hills
waiting for the bus after the shrink
i think he noticed me staring at his legs
they were two different sizes
and he made a joke about them to me
i laughed, feeling awkward
i said "what happened?"
i feared
uh-oh i went to far
i had heart surgery he said
they stuck a straight needle in me
just found out they're going 2 do it again
more medical bills, more unnecessary drama
i thought
after an long silence he says
do you like music?
sure i reply, unsure of the direction this is leading
do you know barbra he replied
barbra? i asked yes he said, my first name
i said "i know barbra now" confused
he laughs
no BARBRA streisand, the singer
of course i tell him
he starts talking, wrote a song for her
on the same album as people
she's using it in her latest dvd release
yada yada i thought
we talked about films
he was interested in what i thought
of brokeback mountain and obscure musical films of the 60s
the bus came
we both got on
i paid, to notice him standing
offering me the inside seat next to him
mind if i finish my story he asks
i cannot refuse this 80 year old man with heart problems
we talked the entire way to my stop
an hour at least then he surprises me
wants to get off at my stop
says he has to go the pharmacy
for his new rx for his wounded heart
i pretend to not be weary
he wanted to tell me all about his ex partner
dion mcgregor he tells me...dye-un he pronounces
they wrote music together
dion the lyrics, mr barr wrote the score
we talked broadway shows
and my inept singing abilities
he asks me "what do you do for a living"
an actor i respond quietly, out of the ordinary
normally i say i'm in school studying to be a therapist
mr barr seemed safe, and i spilled the beans
he asks anything he would have seen
no i reply, a lie but could b the truth
do you sing he asks me again
I SIGH, defeated
he repeated a lot of questions, must b the broken heart
i shared with him a treasured story my mamaw
whose death anniversary is days away
and who would have had another birthday today
someone with lots of medical problems
the most dear to my heart in my time on this earth
i felt safe
when we got off at my stop, 1/2 a mile from my house
i started to cross the street to walk my usual routine
he asks "you don't take the bus up the street"
no i reply i prefer the walk myself
i hope he'll take the bus
it's beyond AWKWARD at this point
i have not figured out the purpose of this
he has given me his number
and already invited me to his house
to listen to cds he recorded of his ex's dreams
cds released in the 60s, being made into animation he told
i felt more fear
he insisted on walking with me
i acted the same, thinking just a little longer
with this man of whom i'm so confused
why he's offered to teach me to sing
he guaranteed so
whose been so kind, yet odd at the same time
whose going through heart troubles
just like my beloved mamaw
i walked across santa monica
he followed me, talking at a rapid rate
just as he did on the bus for the past hour
i felt like i said 1 word to his 100, lonely i thought
a few blocks up, his pace noticeably slowed
'are you ok' i asked my companion
just out of breath he replied, you walk face
we were walking at a snails pace, i thought
i offer him a nearby bench, and my 1/2 empty water bottle
he takes both offers and looks defeated
i think what the fuck is wrong you with
making this old man with heart problems
walk this half mile to my house, his pharmacy
I BLAME MYSELF
immediately i attempt to escape
i'm going to have to keep going
i have my alcohol class at 430
and they dont let you in if your late
i fudge the time a bit, ok
he follows me, insisting my offerance
the water bottle etc revived him
and back to his rapid rate of talking
i was shocked and confused
we finished the walk
i to my house north
him to the pharmacy east
we parted ways
shook hands
i said it was excellent meeting him
he the same and reminding me to call him
i thought how he had told me about his medical bills
outrageous and unable to pay he reported
i wanted to help, felt i must help but had yet to offer
and crossed the street to my house
i said goodbye 2 mr barr
NOTHING HAPPENS BY CHANCE,
this i believe in whole heartedly
but what the hell does this mean
are mr barr and i to be friends
did he have a message or
was i just providing company to a lonely old man

i offer him a nearby bench, and my 1/2 empty water bottle
he takes both offers and looks defeated
i think what the fuck is wrong you with
making this old man with heart problems
walk this half mile to my house, his pharmacy
I BLAME MYSELF
immediately i attempt to escape
i'm going to have to keep going
i have my alcohol class at 430
and they dont let you in if your late
i fudge the time a bit, ok
he follows me, insisting my offerance
the water bottle etc revived him
and back to his rapid rate of talking
i was shocked and confused
we finished the walk
i to my house north
him to the pharmacy east
we parted ways
shook hands
i said it was excellent meeting him
he the same and reminding me to call him
i thought how he had told me about his medical bills
outrageous and unable to pay he reported
i wanted to help, felt i must help but had yet to offer
and crossed the street to my house
i said goodbye 2 mr barr
NOTHING HAPPENS BY CHANCE,
this i believe in whole heartedly
but what the hell does this mean
are mr barr and i to be friends
did he have a message or
was i just providing company to a lonely old man

dance, billy! dance!
is anyone else inspired
to chant that favored line
as we watch our white house
the party with control of the button
do a little tap routine for the nation?
bhagdad er, an hbo documentary
i saw it two weeks ago
a screener copy i was lucky to get
i watched three times in a row
shedding a life time of tears
i tried to watch it air last night
live for the nation -- but could not
it will affect me always
should be required viewing for all
especially billy....dance billy, dance!
today was a day of change
old friends came knocking on my door
i answered, forgiveness abound
and i turned a knew leaf
actually confronting this issue
i've had my whole life
an issue so many men and women face
my ass and the taylor "a cups"
gone forever
this i affirm to you all today
now my mind is empty
no words, shockingly enough
i wrote three pages of material
for the dream of late i call my act
instead of the 8 pages i'm still workin' toward
due tommorow at antioch
the school i am so proud to attend
corretta scott king is an alumn
i am a lucky bastard
today!

bush approval rating lower than NIXON's
david gregory interviewed king bush
for cnn on immigration
his approval ratings have dropped
below nixon's days before he resigned
bush say's we're unsettled
i saw we're fucking pissed as hell
check out the video here: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/19.html#a8349
GREGORY: Let me ask you about your leadership. In the most recent survey, your disapproval rating is now one point lower than Richard Nixon‘s before he resigned the presidency. You‘re laughing, but ...
Video-WMP Video-QT
BUSH: I'm not laughing, I just ...
GREGORY: ... why do you think that is?
BUSH: Because we're at war, and war unsettles people. We got-listen, we've got a great economy. We've added 5.2 million jobs in the last two-and-a-half years. But there's a-but people are unsettled. They don‘t look at the economy and say life is good. They know we're at war and I'm not surprised that people are unsettled because of war.
The enemy has got a powerful tool, and that is to get on your TV screen by killing innocent people, and my job is to continue to remind the people it's worth it. We're not going to retreat hastily. You know, we're not going to pull out of there before the job is done and we‘ve got a plan for victory.
GREGORY: But they're just not unsettled, sir. They disapprove of the job you‘re doing.
BUSH: That's unsettled.

megan parks
it was 4th grade
i was obsessed
with her best friend
lindsay sowden
as was my best friend
with lindsay and megans bf
portia tuma
my little brother dated
portia tuma's cousin
wierd huh
all this just came together
when my lil bro, the frat
took mama to church
on mother's day
mama saw portia tuma
and immediatly knew
she hated me riding in portia's mom's car
she drove like a maniac
price saw the ex's family
portia had the most annoying laugh...
it's strange how the pieces connect
we went out for less than a month
i'd say two weeks max
i remember we exchanged gifts
i spent a month's allowance
on some fancy necklace
she gave me a ut t-shirt
we broke up days after
i'm pretty sure i broke up with her
because i thought i had a chance at lindsay
i remember the day after we broke up
she came up to me, classes pre-braces 10 years old
showed me the necklace she was wearing
not mine
and said at least i can wear this and be proud
i still don't know what exactly that meant
i wonder what would have happened had
that relationship lasted
and megan and i gotten married
oh the possibilities of life

STOKED ON THIS....HAD TO SHARE....
(transcript from crooks and liars)
Jack Cafferty: Wolf, Today's lesson in hypocrisy comes to us courtesy of the Senate Judiciary Committee. They met in a different private room behind closed doors today and approved a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage. at one point the thing got pretty ugly. A shouting match, between the Republican Chairman Senator Arlen Spector and Democratic Senator Russ Feingold, who said he was against the Amendment as well as Spector's decision to hold the vote in a private room out of the public's view.
These guys are shameless. Feingold eventually stormed out telling Spector "I've enjoyed your lecture Mr Chairman. See ya."
Senator Spector in a real show of courage, says that he is "totally opposed to the Amendment", but he voted for it anyway saying that it deserves a debate in the Senate. Majority Leader Bill Frist says the full Senate will now debate a Constitutional Amendment which has absolutely no chance of passing. Frist hopes to have a vote by June 5th.
This is all being done by the republican majority in an effort to appeal to Right-wing nuts in the Republican Party ahead of the upcoming mid-term elections. Ignore all of the pressing issues facing the country, and instead go grovel at the feet of the lunatic fringe. Senator Frist should be very proud of himself. That's leadership. Here's the question: Is now the time for the Senate to consider a constitutional Amendment on gay marriage?"

ETHEL
It was ninth grade -- she was my algebra teacher. Algebra was always first period and we were always late. And by we I mean the four of us Laura, Ryan, Chris, and I. We were always late, valuing getting stoned on the way to school over being on time. I remember so vividly. Laura and I were in algebra together, and always stumbled in late with our Bagel Factory breakfast and push our way to the back row. The used to start the class doing times tables quizzes. She thought knowing what every number multiplied times every number was key to our getting algebra. She would pick random people from class to do the times tables and randomly point with a ruler randomly through. “8 times 5, 8 times 7, 8 times 3…” she’d say as she’d run through the tables, banging her wooden ruler against the white board. Now that I type it out it seems very 1950s, I know.
Laura and I would always stagger our way to the back row and I’d take out my vitamins. Well vitamins and pills, I was already on medication at this point. I’d line them all up, all in a row. Purples, pinks, blues, yellows, capsules, tablets and of course whatever color I had selected of my Flintstones chewable, my favorite pill still to this day. And I’d open up my often spiked OJ, and take each individually. It was like a religion to me, this ritual. As she’d run on calling “Lindsay, 4 times 8” “4 times 9” on and on hoping she wouldn’t call on me….at least not during my ritual. She always wore black. Black from head to toe with china doll soft white skin long curly prematurely grayed curly hair often tied up out of her face.
She would always eat the most disgusting things for breakfast I remember, as she went thru this ritual and during class. Oatmeal with wheat germ and goji berry juice and nuts she loved all sorts of random weird nuts. In addition to algebra she ran detention at the end of the day and once tried to send Ryan and I out on a witch hunt because she was starving and she needed some nuts. We went and got fake IDs telling her we could never find the store. I remember her being very thin but for some reason having a rather enlarged stomach area almost similar to a newly pregnant woman. She told me once she had all her “lady parts” removed. I had no interest in knowing what that meant. One morning she had decided to go on a diet, I did not quite understand this, as it seemed like she already was on a quite fanatical diet already.
I always had my video camera or photography camera, mainly to document just how fucked up my friends and I would get at school without anyone knowing it. She thought of me as some sort of amateur photographer and asked me to take before and after shots of her for this all out diet she was going to partake in. I of course was happy to oblige. I still have the before picture, hanging around my house somewhere. The after, she never quite got to. We soon learned the point of this mysterious diet. It was a small class, and we were all interested in this fascinating lady. She had found a boyfriend, our quirky algebra teacher. And his name was Tony – “Tony the Tiger” we called him.
Now this was right around the time where just about every kid carried cell phones over the age of sixteen and some younger. But still most adults were lagging and refusing to catch up with technology. Well with Tony the Tiger came her new cell phone – and all the hilarity that ensued her trying to use it. The phone would ring in class, and she crouch under her desk for privacy. “Tony is that you?” she asked and run outside seeking better reception. We all would laugh. This became a regular event in our early morning algebra apparently Tony had a very busy schedule and was only free during our class for chit chats or something. She had given me her cell phone number once, when she sent me on the excursion to find her nuts.
So in detention or occasionally class I would frequently call her from mine. She’d be three tables over…and end up rushing outside seeking “better reception”. And I would come back with some smart ass remark like “Mrs. Mooreman, this is Scott I need help with problem 7 over at table four please”. She’d always return to the classroom or to the library where detention was held wherever I called her from laughing in stitches. She always thought this was funny. So did we.

BUS TALES
I was groggy, didn't want to commute to class less is more go -- and i was on my way to the alleged bus stop when i was approached by an older gentleman wearning pieces of what at some point in time had to be clothes. i was smoking and he came up in my face and asked for an extra cigerette. catch me in a good mood, i totally will help a brother out with a cig like that. Every so often something pulls my heartstrings and I'll give them some cash...more often buy a lunch at a fast food joint my treat so i can pick thier brain. however, after wasting so much time, energy, and effort trying to save the homeless i've realized through my own experiences and projects done in sociology and psychology class -- who says they want to be helped. So I tend not to enable the whole process by induldging beggers that often anymore -- except of course for a good sign.
My point, and I do have one is this. The many finally leaving me alone (as I put my iPod to not be roped in by his chaotic behavior and speech issues) and goes to stare at himself in a store window. I wonded to myself for quite some time and still will what exactly happened in his obviously full years on earth to drive him out of reality. I wondered if he had chlidren, grandchildren, or any friends or relatives. And did they know where he was, how to contact him or was hope just given up. I am not negating the fact some of his choices -- and what he ended up doing as a reaction to things both awesome or horric events throughout his life. It just made me think I would want to know if a relative of mine started down such a path. Basically, I got all co-dependent but did not act just posed questions.
Then I noticed my bus was here and without thinking twice about it flicked my half smoking butt on the ground....not thinking twice. And hustled to get in line to board the bus. I turned back to find my lost friend from the streets of hollywood putting on this big production to conceal that he was going to smoke my still half good cig from the ground after I wouldn't even share. Literally -- my entire world caved in. I still can't get over all the feelings, many self depricating, that i was inundated with at that moment. the moment i realized whant i should have done, what i wanted to do, what i didn't care enough to do, however you phrase it.
I cannot get this out of my head, dreams, or thoughts -- and probally it will be a recurring guest for quite some time -- everytime less painful as I work through this and grow.
But I cannot stop saying to myself
WHO ARE YOU? WHAT KIND OF HUMAN BEING WOULD? HYPOCRIT....i digress
the main thing I cannot stop thinking is I SHOULD HAVE HANDED IT TO HIM.

what's so big about a blog anyway?
THIS BRIEF GLIMPSE INTO REALITY
UMMMM A POETIC TRUTH?!
WAS POSTED ON BRITNEYSPEARS.COM
ALONG WITH A CLASSY PHOTO
BLOND TWEENS GIVING THE FINGER
DRESSED A 'LA TRAILOR TRASH SHEEK
HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE CRAZY MAMA SPEARS
I'M GLUED TO SET CAN'T WAIT 4 WHAT'S NEXT
DON'T KNOW ABOUT U -- BUT I LOVE IT
ALWAYS REMEMBER
by britney spears

don't sweat the petty shit
pet the sweaty shit!
'rememberance of who i am'
no more chains
that you gave me.
enough of the pain
now i'm craving
something sweet, so delight
how do you stand sleeping at night?
silly patterns that we follow
you pull me in
i'm being swallowed.
by the ones you think you love
they pull you down
you can't see above.
manipulation is the key
they screw it in
because you're naive.
you come to me now
why do you bother?
remember the bible
the sins of the father.
what you do
you pass down.
no wonder why
i lost my crown.
you don't see me now
you ask yourself why
my crown is back
and it's way too high
for you to be in my presence
esepcially my son
you should bow down
i've only just begun
the guilt you fed me
made me weak
the voodoo you did
i couldn't speak
you're awakening
the phone is ringing
resurrection of my soul
the fear i'm bringing
what will you say
and what will you do
she's not the same person that you're used to
you trick me once, twice, now it's three
look who's smiling now
damn, it's good to be me!
